I often wonder—was I truly ready to leave my full-time income to pursue a career guiding others to health and longevity? If I’d waited until I felt ready, would I have ever left Sports Authority—or been unemployed when they went bankrupt?
Was I ready to leave the ‘no-risk’ setup I had at 24/7 Fitness to open what is now Penance Gym? Would I have ever felt ready—or would I have gone down with them when they closed?
The truth is, we rarely feel ready for the next steps we need to take. Life doesn’t wait for perfect timing. Rarely are all our ducks in a row. Sometimes, you just have to start walking and trust that they’ll follow.
I’ve often described owning a small business as jumping off a cliff and learning how to build a plane on the way down.
The usual response that I receive is how terrifying that sounds and that’s right, it is terrifying… but it beats being stuck on top of the cliff, forever filled with regret wondering “what if?!”
If you’re waiting to feel ready—stop. Take the leap. Start walking. The ducks will follow.
