Ever feel like you’re either stuck doing the same workouts over and over with no excitement, or worse, bouncing between workouts so often that nothing really sticks?
At Penance Gym, we structure our class programming intentionally to strike the right balance—enough repetition to make real progress, but enough variety to keep you engaged. That’s why we repeat all workouts for two weeks before introducing new ones.
Here’s why it works.
Progress Requires Repetition
If you change things too often, you never give your body a chance to adapt. Strength, skill, and conditioning all improve through repetition—practicing the same movements under consistent conditions. Repeating workouts for two weeks allows you to dial in technique, push for small improvements, and track measurable progress.
If you did a workout last week and struggled with a movement, you get a second shot at it the next week—stronger, more confident, and with a better understanding of what to do.
Variety Keeps You Coming Back
But doing the same workouts forever? That’s a recipe for burnout and boredom. This is where variety comes in. After two weeks, the slate is wiped clean. New workouts replace the old, keeping things fresh while still following a structured plan. You’re always learning and improving without feeling stuck in a rut.
Far from random—The movements, intensity, and structure are designed to reinforce long-term progress while keeping you motivated.
The Sweet Spot
Too much variety? No progress.
Too much repetition? No excitement.
Two-week cycles? The sweet spot.
Penance Gym’s programming is built with purpose—to help you get stronger, stay engaged, and enjoy the process and the progress. If you’ve been spinning your wheels in workouts that don’t seem to go anywhere, or dreading the monotony of the same routine, it’s time for a smarter approach.
You don’t have to choose between progress and excitement. You can have both. That’s why we do things the way we do.
