Who Thrives at Penance Gym? It’s Not About Demographics.

Business coaches love to talk about finding your “ideal client.” They’ll tell you to narrow it down: age, income level, even job title, what kind of car they drive – name them even. The idea is to attract people who are the best fit for what you offer.

And I get it. But I’ve always struggled with that approach.

Because here at Penance Gym, we don’t have one “type” of person we serve.

We train busy parents and small business owners. Retired teachers and middle school athletes. Nurses, contractors, homeschooling moms, and everything in between.

They’re not all the same age. They don’t come from the same background. Some have trained before, some haven’t. Some walk in the door with pain they’re ready to leave behind. Others come looking for energy, strength, or confidence.

But over time, I’ve realized something:

The ones who thrive here—the ones who make real change, who grow in strength, capacity, and quality of life—all share one trait.

They’re willing to work.

Not just wish for results. Not just show up and hope it sticks. They’re willing to put in real effort. They understand that strength isn’t given—it’s earned. That getting better means showing up on the days you don’t feel like it. That progress takes time, patience, and consistency.

And they don’t just do it for themselves. They do it because they want to serve their families better. Lead by example. Be more present and capable in their lives.

That’s our common ground at Penance Gym.

You don’t have to be an athlete. You don’t have to be in shape to start. You just have to be willing to work for it.

Because here, effort earns respect—and results.
