The number one tip I would give to someone who is new to Penance Gym or any type of group training or strength training: just show up.
No matter how you feel—sore, tired, or unmotivated—if your schedule allows it, just show up. Consistency is the foundation of success in any fitness journey. I’m often confronted with the concern that someone might overdo it by coming to the gym more than three or four times a week. The truth is, your body has a remarkable ability to regulate itself. If you need to go lighter or slower, your body will let you know – those are the days where things feel heavier and you feel sluggish – but you still need to check the box.
By showing up regularly, you build a habit. Once you establish that habit, you significantly increase your chances of reaching your fitness goals. Remember, the hardest part is often just getting to the gym. Once you’re there, you’ve already won half the battle, and much more often than not you’ll walk out afterwards feeling better than when you walked in.
I have lost count of how many times I have witnessed a member who was hesitant about committing to a regular schedule due to their busy lifestyle. They decided to give it a try, showing up even on days they felt exhausted. Over time, not only did their fitness improve, but they also found a renewed sense of energy and motivation in other areas of their life. Their story is a testament to the power of consistency.
Here are a few tips to help you make showing up easier:
- Set a Regular Schedule: Choose specific days and times for your workouts and stick to them.
- Find a Workout Buddy: Having someone to train with can provide accountability and make workouts more enjoyable.
- Prepare in Advance: Lay out your gym clothes and pack your bag the night before to reduce morning hassle.
At Penance Gym, you’ll find a supportive community that encourages each other to stay committed. Whether you’re new or experienced, you’ll be surrounded by people who understand the challenges and celebrate the victories with you.
So, whether you’re new to Penance Gym or any training program, remember this: just show up. Your future self will thank you for it.
